Buying the Right Sheer Curtains for Your Home

Once you’ve decided to purchase, the step even before the first, let’s call it 1A, you will need to measure the windows that you are looking to cover and it’s recommended that buy enough curtains to cover at least two times the window you’re covering.  For instance, if your window is 50” wide you need a minimum 100” of fabric to complete your treatment.

You will also want to make sure that you pick out the right rod for your curtains. The rod you choose will depend on whether or not the sheer panels will be used alone or as an under treatment in which case you will need a double curtain rod. You also have the option of using a standard or decorative curtain rod.

Used as Under Treatments

If you are going to be layering your sheers under curtains or drapes, install the sheer curtains as close to the window as possible. This will allow you the room needed to draw (open and close) the outer curtains.

When you install your curtains make sure that the curtain rod is evenly spaced on the window’s top edge and that it is level. We do NOT recommend you drill holes in molding around the window, rather measure 1 to 2 inches past the molding and place your mounting hardware. It may be necessary to install a center bracket or two if the window is wide or if the treatments you’re hanging are heavy.

To add to the appearance of your sheers, curtain and drape combination, try adding tie-backs to the outer treatments. This allows you to make the most of your drapery in both function and appearance.
